Cybercrime

Let me tell you all about cybercrime. It is like you're traveling in a public transport like bus or metro train. You're traveling carefree in the crowd and looking at the scenes outside the window and at one time of a point you realize that your wallet is missing or your phone is not in your pocket anymore. The same way cybercrimes happen. We don't even realize when it has happened. We get to know about it when it's too late.

Heard of people's private photos getting leaked or their accounts being hacked and some explicit content being posted from their account by the hacker to defame them? You too could be next if you're not careful. Just imagine how tough it would be if you're the next victim of a black hat.

Well, I have some tips that can save you from being the next. So, have you ever been friends with a stranger on a social network? I'm not saying that every stranger is a criminal of the cyber world, but who knows if the person you're chatting with is real or someone pretending to be that person. In my opinion, you should never trust that person on the other side of the screen until you don't know them as well as you know your real friends.

Ever received a link that redirects you to a page where you're required to log in? Sometimes, it is not a real login page but a page that saves your email and password you enter and sends it to the hacker. So, next time make sure the link you received is real or fake.

Also, these days there are so many applications that track your location and files. And some even ask for access to almost everything on your device. Who knows, if the hacker gets your location from that app and kidnaps you from your house when you're alone. So, stop allowing those applications to access anything blindly. If the access is necessary then allow it only for that moment.

Now take your attention to the WannaCry ransomware attack which happened in May 2017 worldwide. It was a ransomware worm. People received a fake email with an attachment. Those who downloaded that attachment were badly troubled. The attachment was nothing other than that worm that locked their computers and demanded some ransom amount in the hacker's account in bitcoin. If the victim paid, their computer got unlocked. If not, their computer got corrupt, which means all their data got lost. This attack caused huge losses to people all around the world. And from this what we learn is that we should never download an attachment file blindly. Who knows what the file contains.

So, these were some tips that can save you from being the next victim. But with time, technology is advancing so it is our responsibility that we should keep ourselves aware of what to do and what not to do while using the internet.

Have a great day!
