The fears in our mind

Three years ago, I was reading a bestseller by Joseph Murphy. There was a  beautiful example given in the book on how our fears eliminate our confidence. In the context, he wrote about a plank. Imagine a plank has been lying on the ground and you're told to walk from its one end to the other without keeping a single step on the ground. You'll say that what's difficult in it. Now, if I say the same plank is kept 20 floors high connecting two buildings and now you have to walk over it. Will you be able to do it? Well, most people will find it freaking. It's the same plank and you're told to walk over it. Earlier it was kept on the ground but now 20 floors high above. So, the fear of falling eliminates our confidence and the fear is so big that someone attempting to do this might fall from there. This concludes that sometimes situations are really easy but the fear of failure stops us from doing it.

Few days after reading this, there came a childhood incident in my mind. I used to visit a relative. From their terrace, there was a very high wall, around two floors high connecting their house to someone else's. It was just a wall, and on it's both sides there was nothing but ground, 2 floors below. I don't know why such a wall was there and I don't even care. The first time I saw that wall, I stared at it for a few minutes. Then, I don't know how but a burning desire was built up inside me. A courage that I don't know how it came and then I walked up on that wall and reached the connecting house. I did something that was freaking. Even I came back from that house walking that same wall again. After that day, I visited the same relative again after some years but never gathered the same courage again. Now I realize, as we grow up we get exposed to many unnecessary thoughts that later turn out into fears which stop us from doing great things. This world is full of all kinds of people. Some are extremely negative while some are extremely positive. It's up to us whom to choose.

Have a great day!
