A Strange Event

 Today, I was watching the rare footage of the launch of the Challenger space shuttle. And that footage is rare because the cameraman instead of shooting the launch turned the camera in the opposite direction and recorded the reaction of the people present there. Those people were family members and relatives of the crew member, few invited dignitaries, and some NASA officials. In the beginning, everyone looked excited and happy. After around a minute, some faces looked excited, while a few turned shocked in fear and sudden grief because something strange happened.

If you don't know, let me tell you that the Challenger space shuttle was launched on 28 January 1986 by NASA that broke apart in the air 73 seconds after its launch, killing all seven crew members aboard. Coming back to that rare footage, after a minute, as I told, expressions of the public changed, obviously because of this explosion. The general public, who was not familiar with rocket launches thought that it was the separation of rocket's stages. And that is why they got excited thinking it is a sign of initial success. But those who were familiar with the launches instantly realized that they have lost the crew members onboard and that is why they turned shocked. 

By the end of this video, I was in tears. People were really disheartened. Family members of the crew members were crying badly. I still remember a kid along with his father were crying holding each other. Probably, one of the crew members was that kid's mother. An old couple didn't realize until the announcement happened, and they were completely shattered at the moment, probably parents of one of the crew members. So, what I conclude from this is that life is very unpredictable. The crew members never knew that those first 73 seconds of their flight would be the last moments of their life. 

Similarly, in 1977, the University of Evansville Men's Basketball Team was killed in a plane crash. And the strange thing about that incident is that one player didn't make it to the trip due to illness. And two weeks, later he also died in car wreckage. 

Sometimes, strange things happen. Maybe there's a cause behind them. Not today, but someday we would be able to find out them.
