Why is this generation so stressed and unfocused?
So yesterday, all my devices got discharged at the same time and I had to plug them into charging. During that time, I didn't have a single device to scroll through my social media or entertain myself using the internet.
During that period of 40 minutes, I opened my journal and wrote down some interesting and quality content after a very long time. During those 40 minutes, I felt a deep clarity over my thoughts and whatever my brain was processing. I felt the least stressed and highly productive.
It made me realize that social media has somewhere stolen that clarity from our minds and made our life stressful. I have spent 3 years and 4 months without using social media, specifically Instagram and those 3 years have been the most productive years of my life.
Also, I've realized that whenever I open my WhatsApp to look out for an important business chat, I sometimes get lost in those numerous group chats and conversations that I even forget why I actually opened WhatsApp for.
The same goes while looking for an important document on my laptop where I've not deleted a single document for ages.
The thing is our lives have become cluttered with useless stuff which is stealing our focus and making us stressed by forcing us to think of things and wasting time on stuff that is not even important to us.
Our social media is cluttered with unnecessary posts, stories, and DMs. Our messengers are cluttered with unnecessary group chats and conversations. Our phones are cluttered with unnecessary apps, photos, documents, and whatnot. These are those minute things that are stealing our focus and destroying our lives silently.
Our generation is the most depressed of all time even though we have access to the most opportunities that were ever there.
There is a need to declutter our lives.
Stop checking your phone again and again, keep your notifications off.
Also, it's not just about the internet and mobile phones. It's about people too.
After I joined college, gradually I realized that socializing with so many people has somewhere made me unproductive. I'm not saying that we should talk to as less people as we can. It's just, we should know who actually matters. Having so many friends is of no use when you can't even focus on your goals and priorities.
Priorities spending time on yourself and on those who actually matter. Unnecessary friendships only lead to wasting a lot of time and getting distracted from your goals. This is something I'm saying from my experience, might sound rude but it is the ultimate harsh reality. The sooner you realize it, the quicker you'll start acting on your goals.
Writing this stuff after almost a year, thanks to those 40 minutes of disconnection from social media and the internet brought back my creativity and clarity to write out my thoughts clearly.
Have a great day!
